Tata Motors had introduced its MPV, Tata Sumo Grande Mark I way back in 2008 to challenge its rivals Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. However, the Tata MPV had not been very successful during that time and had undergone a makeover after one and a half years to emerge out as Tata Sumo Grande Mark II. Still unable to topple the leading players in the segment Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova, the Tata Motors is said to introduce its all new Tata Grande Mark III, dropping out the name Sumo.

The images show that the Sumo and the Mark II badges are missing on the new MPV along with the alterations made with respect to the graphics on the flanks of the MPV. Tata Motors had done this before, dropping out the name Vista from Tata Indica Vista, which is now offered as Tata Vista and similarly with Tata Indigo Manza, which now sells as Tata Manza.

Tata Sumo had been a popular model of Tata Motors for around ten years now. The Tata Sumo was named after the TELCO's Ex-chairman Suman Moolgaonkar, the name which the company now plans to dispose of. As of now, the Grande name alone is likely to make it to the interiors and on the suspension. The new Tata Grande is expected to have softened interiors and the other changes are likely to take place are in the rear layout of the MPV. The outgoing version has a leaf spring layout resulting in a bumpy experience for the rear passengers. Both Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova are deployed with independent coil springs.
