Despite all the speculations that Tata will not introduce the Nano diesel, we have got confirmed news that the new Nano Diesel will be coming soon. This new Nano will have a brand new engine, which will be an all-new designed powerful yet efficient engine.
Tata has been working with Bosch and Castrol on this front and we will soon see this car in the Indian market. This will be an 800cc two-pot diesel engine that will produce 40bhp of power and will have a peak torque of 70Nm. This will be make of special alloys so that will reduce the weight and should return in excess of 28km/l, under the ARAI cycle.
The engine will have a pressure of 1600bar at injection and this high pressure will enhance the performance of the engine. The Nano diesel injection has been developed by Bosch and the turbocharged developed by Honeywell. The Nano Diesel will have a 2.2-litre sump for oil and we believe it could have Castrol oil. The Tata Nano Diesel will also be available with AMT (automated manual transmission), which will be a five-speed box. The top speed of the Nano diesel will also be limited to 105km/hr. The tyre size will remain the same and it will be made available even with manual transmission and power steering.
The price difference between the Nano petrol and diesel will be about Rs 60,000 and at the moment Tata engineers are working on increasing the fuel efficiency of the Nano. We can expect it to be seen by the end of this year, mostly.
