Tata Nano nominated for 'World Design Impact prize'

Tata Nano has been nominated for 'World Design Impact prize' by Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). This prestigious award hails from the non-profit international organization, ICSID which promotes and protects industrial designers globally. The two Indian companies nominated for the 'world design impact prize’ includes the Tata Nano and Jaipur Foot. Although Tata Nano sales are seeing a plunge this year, an honor like this is definitely a kick-off for the hatchback in car market. Tata Nano which is by far the smallest and cheapest car in India by Tata Motors is suffering from technical glitches which lead to fire catching by the vehicle many a times.

However, the company has assured the customers to look into the fault thoroughly and mend the problem. ‘Tata Nano’ is a dream project of Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group, who wanted to introduce the most affordable car for Indians. Pradyumna Vyas, director of National Institute of Design (NID) is an executive board member of ICSID. The Elephant Design, a design firm started by a group of NID graduates in 1989 nominated the small car Tata Nano. ICSID will make a formal announcement in respect to the nominated projects at their general assembly at Taipei on 27th October, 2011. The World Design Impact prize winner would be showcased on 2nd February, 2012 at the WDC Design Gala in Helsinki, Finland.
