Tata Nano has witnessed a good sales number in September this year. Tata Motors managed to find 2,936 customers for Tata Nano in September compared to its 1,202 units sold in August. However, in the broad eye-view, the sales of Nano hatchback are actually falling down heavily, all thanks to fire catching incidents of Tata Nano tarnishing the image of the car, volatile petrol price and closure of Nano manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat for a few days because of maintenance and production realignment, as reported by the company.

Looking at the sales graph of this cheapest car in India, it can be gauged that the car sales have plunged in the recent months. In July this year, Tata Motors sold a decent 3,260 units of Nano hatchback. Back in June, 5451 Tata Nano cars wre sold. Even before this, a very handsome sales figure of 6515 Nano cars put smile on Ratan Tata’s face. And just a month before-in April-this car did wonders in its history of 13 months in Indian market. A record 10,012 number of Tata Nano hatches were sold in India which was 184% higher sales number than April, 2010.

Comparing these sales figures to the September mark (2,936) is like comparing an elephant to an ant. Tata Motors came with a new low down payment scheme to push Nano sales in August, but all its measure failed miserably due to the bad image it is carrying with itself. Tata Nano future seems to be gloomy as the small car just sells one eighth of the Maruti Alto’s numbers, which is the next least priced car in India. However, speculations are emerging about Tata Motors bringing in a diesel variant of Tata Nano, albeit the company is tight-lipped about the launch of diesel engined version of the Nano. Only time bears the destiny of Tata Nano that whether it will revive in Indian market or it will gradually phase out.
