Tata Nano soon to become second best selling model of India

JD Power’s recent research shows that Tata Nano is all set to become second best selling model of India. It is expected that this small car will be on the number two spot in the year 2011 after Tata increases its production. JD Power Asia Pacific Forecasting Senior Market Analysts Marvin Zhu and Ammar Master have stated these possibilities for Tata Nano. It is being said that Hyundai i10, which presently enjoys the second position in the domestic market of India, will be replaced by Tata Nano. However , it will be Maruti Alto that will enjoy the number one position.

The study also made a clear indication towards the top three best selling models of India. It was said that Maruti Alto which will stand at the number one position will be followed by Tata Nano at the second position. It would be Maruti Wagon R which will stand at the third position in the list of top three best selling models in India. Now, the volumes of Nano are averaging near about 10,000 units per month because of Gujarat facility in place. Looking at the plans of launching the automatic and diesel versions which are under discussion , the sources of the industry say that Nano’s monthly figure may even reach 35,000 units by the period of year 2014-15.

Tata Motors also intends to further expand its customer base for Tata Nano because the company is planning to launch the diesel variant of this model. The company is expecting the models in the higher price range with the introduction of the diesel variant. The industry sources say that by the year end, the company will possibly be all ready with its complete blueprint for the diesel expansion by year-end. Every month this FY, the car market of India is growing at the rate of 30%. A total of 15 lakh passenger cars were sold in India in the last FY. Such growth rate suggests that by the year 2017, around 31.4 lakhs cars will be sold in India.
