Earlier in January 2021, Rajeev Chaba, president and MD, MG Motor India, stated that they are working on a sub-20 lakh electric vehicle.

It is supposed be a rival to the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming electric Mahindra XUV300
It appears that MG Motor India has delayed the launch of its sub-20 lakh electric vehicle to 2023, due to the ongoing COVID-19 and chip shortage situations.
The upcoming electric vehicle is currently in the works and will be positioned below the ZS EV. It could use a smaller battery pack and a relatively limited feature set than the ZS EV, for a lower price tag. The prices should be kept at par with the Tata Nexon EV, which is priced around Rs 15 lakh, and the Mahindra XUV300 electric, which Mahindra is planning to launch in 2022.
MG currently has the ZS EV, which is priced from Rs 20.99 lakh to Rs 24.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It was launched in early 2020 and has garnered decent sales till now. The manufacturer has sold around 3,000 units of its EV so far.
The ZS EV gets a 44.5kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 143PS and 353Nm. It offers a range of 340 kilometres on a single charge.
MG is also planning to introduce a bigger 73 kWH battery pack option for the ZS EV, which might offer a range of around 500 kilometres. However, there is still no confirmation on when it will be available. MG is also working on a battery assembly facility, which might be functional from 2022.
