Tata Gravitas (Harrier 7-seat) will be filling in the shoes of the long-standing SUV

  • Tata Safari first surfaced in India in 1998.

  • Tata Safari Storme’s unsold inventory on discounts ranging between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000.

  • Tata Hexa gets much higher discounts of up to Rs 1.65 lakh this month.

  • Three variant options on the Safari Storme with an option of 4WD tech as well.

  • The SUVs price ranges between Rs 11.09 lakh and Rs 16.44 lakh.

The Tata Safari has been one of the most important SUVs from the past two decades. But no matter how popular, age catches up and that’s exactly what’s happening with the Safari Storme. So if you’re a Safari fanboy and were delaying your purchase, now is the time as dealers are clearing their inventory and offering discounts up to Rs 50,000 across major cities.

Location

Discount

Mumbai

Rs 35,000

Bengaluru

Rs 40,000

Chennai

Rs 35,000

Hyderabad

Rs 50,000

Note: These discounts may vary from dealer to dealer in the same city

The Safari Storme was sold in three diesel-only variants: LX, EX and VX. The 2.2-litre engine was sold in two states of tune: 150PS/320Nm and 156PS/400Nm. The more potent version gets a 5-speed manual whereas the higher one gets a 6-speed manual and an optional 4WD system as well. The Hexa also follows a similar pattern and is powered by the same set of engines but with an additional automatic transmission option as well.

But Tata’s portfolio will continue to have the same number of SUVs as the manufacturer is gearing up for the launch of the Gravitas in Feb 2020. The Gravitas will be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Harrier but in a more powerful BS6-compliant form. It is also expected to offer additional features over the SUV it’s based upon. The Gravitas will join the three-row Hexa as Tata’s people mover.

The rising number of feature-rich, monocoque SUVs such as the MG Hector and Kia Seltos in the same price bracket has spelled doom for a lot of oldies. That’s why Mahindra is going to bring in a new generation of the Scorpio and even the Thar with modern-day amenities next year. Prices of the Safari Storme range between Rs 11.09 lakh and Rs 16.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
