Tata Tiago

An official from Renault, recently stated that crossovers are the future of Indian automotive industry and that must be true considering the success garnered by the French automaker’s Kwid hatchback. Tata however, seems to be treading on its own path and even doing so has managed to impress the lot of us. You see even though Kwid’s success is unparalleled and made us question why domestic manufacturer’s didn’t come up with a product like it, we had to commend Tata for the fact that they didn’t compromise with the integrity of Tiago’s identity .

You see, there have been quite a few examples of subpar attempts at developing a crossover, which were built just for the sake of capitalising on the interest garnered by the segment. Some examples that pop up in mind include the likes of Skoda Fabia Scout and Cross Polo.

Tata Tiago

Rather than have an existential identity crisis of its own, Tata stuck to its guns and released this pure hatchback, which always had a very good idea of what it was supposed to be and do i.e. be a zippy car. Only as a fallout from the Zika virus outbreak, this car went under the recently culminated renaming process, but even so, the alternative monikers for the car were also laid down by Tata, that is how sure they were about where they wanted to go with this car.

Along with a host of segment first features, which includes the likes of Juke Car app and Navigation app, Tiago will feature the debuting 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel mill, which is capable of producing 70PS. This 3-cylinder unit is sourced from Tata’s in-house developed powerplants and delivers an impressive 140Nm of peak torque. Taking on the petrol powerplant duties is the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Revotron unit, (also developed in-house) which is capable of producing 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

Tata Tiago is expected to be launched soon, while featuring a price tag, which will fall somewhere around Rs. 3.75 lacs The car will rival the likes of Maruti Celerio,Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10, amongst others and will do so in its own individualistic way. This will be a sight to watch out for.
