The automated-manual version of the Tiago might be launched around the festive season and will lock horns with the Celerio AMT
With AMT versions of the Nano and Zest already available, we knew it was only a matter of time before Tata would roll out a Tiago AMT as well. The clutch-less version is expected to hit showrooms around the festive season (by September).
Tata is rolling high on Tiago’s success, bookings have recently crossed the 22,000 mark and its petrol variant accounts for 85 per cent of the overall sales. The automaker had also rolled out the 10,000th Tiago from its Sanand plant in Gujarat last month. Moreover, Tata will soon introduce the Tiago Aktiv, a pseudo-crossover that was displayed at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. It will be sold alongside the stock Tiago and will have the upcoming Chevrolet Beat Active as its primary competitor.
Speaking of the AMT, the homegrown automaker will initially launch the petrol AMT and later on its diesel avatar will join. It is also expected that the Tiago AMT will feature the creep function just like the Nano GenX, which allows the vehicle to move gradually without using the accelerator pedal. Mechanically, the AMT-equipped Tiago will remain unaltered — the petrol will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-pot Revotron that puts out 85PS and a max torque of 114Nm. While the diesel will be a 1.1-litre three-pot Revotorq that musters 70PS and 140Nm of peak torque. Currently, both engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Expect the AMT version to be priced aggressively similar to its manual counterpart.
