After multiple delays and a name change, Tata Motors is finally geared up to launch its all new hatchback - the Tiago, on Wednesday. Let us roll you through all the important pointers. It was officially revealed in December, 2015 and we also took it for a spin. It was expected to be launched either in January or at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, but much to our dismay, its launch was postponed. Bookings for the hatchback started in the first week of March and deliveries are likely to commence from tomorrow.
We have tried to guess the Tiago’s price and sincerely hopeful that it will be in the vicinity of the expected figure. The vehicle competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Chevrolet Beat, among with others. But, out of all, the Celerio will be a tough competitor to battle as it sells the most and offers segment leading petrol and diesel engines in terms of fuel efficiency. Mechanically, Tata is offering new diesel and petrol engine, which will excel in the segment in terms of power. The manufacturer has not revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the Tiago, however, is expected to be in the vicinity of the Celerio's (27.62 kmpl, diesel).
The Tiago will be followed by its twin compact sedan, which is yet to receive its official name (codename - Kite 5). It is expected to be launched later this year. Both, the Tiago and the Kite 5 will replace the decade old Indica and the Indigo compact sedan.
