Tata will launch its highly anticipated compact sedan – Zest tomorrow. Entitled to be Tata's comeback in the compact sedan category, the segment which they created in the country but conquered by rivals. Based on Vista's platform, the Zest features radical changes and debuts Tata's new design language – 'DESIGNEXT'. The new compact sedan will lock horns with Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Speaking of its sibling Bolt hatch, it will be launched soon after the Zest.
The compact sedan features several segment first features both inside-out. Externally, it sports projector headlamps, day-time-running-LEDs and LED taillamps. On the inside, it gets five-inch Harman touch screen infotainment system with voice inputs and various connecting options under Tata's new 'CONNECTNEXT'.
Mechanically, the Zest is powered by a new 1.2 liter Revotron Turbo petrol engine. The 1193cc MPFI turbocharged engine produces 88.8bhp of maximum power while the torque is a spirited 140Nm. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission and sports segment first multi-mode drive – SPORTS, ECO & CITY. With a flick of a button the ECU is re-mapped according to the pre-set settings.
The diesel Zest is powered by a Fiat Multi-Jet derived 1.3L turbo diesel engine dubbed as Quadrajet. The engine gathers 88.8bhp and 200Nm of max torque and features VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger). The diesel engine is mated to five speed manual transmission and also sports a segment first F-Tronic Automated-Manual transmission (remember, it first debuted in the country with Maruti Celerio).
