Tesla Motors to share its patents

Tesla Motors’s billionaire CEO, Chairman and Co-Founder Elon Musk wrote on his blog that the company is open to share its technology for the betterment of auto industry. He also mentioned that the company will not file any patent lawsuits to anyone who uses Tesla Motors technology. Doing so it allows competitors such as General Motors, Nissan and BMW to use Tesla’s technology for the manufacturing of affordable electric cars. 

Nissan, the Japanese automaker is already selling Leaf, a fully electric car which can be driven upto 180kms on a single charge. The car is capable to achieve a speed of 135kmph which comes from the fact that its powerful battery develops a power of 110hp.

Moreover, in the automobile industry, we cannot ignore the German technology, as the Bavarian auto-giant BMW brings its own electric beauty in the form of i3. BMW i3 is the manufacturer's first all electric vehicle and since Tesla patent can now be used by anyone, it will surely help in increasing the range efficiency and power of such vehicles.

Elon Musk in his Blog said, ''Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal. Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.’’With the use of Tesla’s information and patents, many new automobile companies will now set their foot in this new all-electric world. Most of the companies are making efforts but only a handful came through with a successful model.

However in India, lack of government’s instinctive and subsidiaries and factors like unavailability of public charging points are the main reason behind the failure of electric vehicles. To our surprise, in India only Mahindra retails its all electric vehicle Reva e2o which has a range of 100kms. But with some unique initiatives and encouraging goverments policies, electric vehicles can really change the things for good. 

Musk further added, ‘’At best, the large automakers are producing electric cars with limited range in limited volume. Some produce no zero emission cars at all. ‘’Given that annual new vehicle production is approaching 100 million per year and the global fleet is approximately 2 billion cars, it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis. By the same token, it means the market is enormous. Our true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day.’’
