In our conversation with Kenichiro Yomura, President Nissan India we learnt quite a new of things about Nissan’s upcoming plans. Nissan will soon be introducing the upgraded version of the Sunny in the coming months. There are also new products that Nissan will keep on introducing in the Indian car market.
1) The upcoming Sunny seems to get several changes. Will it have several new features like the Micra refresh?
KY: New Sunny is based on the tenth generation Sunny, which was launched in India in 2011. We have made significant changes to attract customers in that segment. We have worked on the styling and improved the overall stance of the car. The interiors too have been heavily reworked and look more luxurious and refined. The vehicle was displayed at Delhi Auto Expo this year and garnered a very positive response.
2) How has the Evalia been doing after its refresh?
KY: With Evalia we have created a new reference in the MPV segment as an Urban Class Utility Vehicle and we have brought a product with many core strengths such as spaciousness, flexibility and best in class fuel economy. Therefore, we feel very confident about the car. We have taken the customer feedback very seriously about the Evalia and added features such as captain seats, sliding rear window and roof-mounted AC blower last year. We will be launching the refreshed Evalia with significant changes very soon.
3) Has the Micra Active affected the sales of Micra or both have grown up?
KY: The Micra Active and Micra have been positioned differently and we do not find an overlap between the two models. Both models cater to two different segments and two different price ranges.
Micra is positioned as a premium hatch back with dynamic exterior, premium interior and class leading features like I-Key, 15” alloy wheels, electric mirrors, fog lamps, high spec audio system, auto AC and steering switches. Micra also has better performance in terms of engine power, acceleration, suspension and braking.
Micra Active is positioned as a value for money car without compromising on quality, and comes with better fuel efficiency. Specification and features have been optimized for segment specific requirements and make the Micra Active more affordable. Competitive pricing for Micra Active has been achieved through design & feature optimization.
4) Terrano has been doing well for Nissan, can we expect more variants like 4x4 of this SUV anytime soon?
KY: Nissan is always listening to the customers. We continuously work on various programs to make further improvements in our products and introduce changes as per market requirements.
5) How does Nissan see the premium SUV segment in India between Rs 20-30 lakhs?
KY: We always study the market’s need and recognize the trends. We do not comment on future product line-up but we can confirm that we are continuing to update our product portfolio with strong new launches in the future, based on market requirements.
