Maruti Suzuki was the only carmaker to achieve total sales of over 1.5 lakh units in September 2023
In September 2023, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors led the sales chart as has been the trend recently, with Mahindra, Honda, and MG registering double-digit month-on-month (MoM) sales growth. Let’s have a look at the brand-wise sales report of the top 10 car selling brands in India.

Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the sales chart by being thecar brand with most sales in September 2023, with just a slight decline of around 3.5 percent in MoM sales. The automaker retailed more than 1.5 lakh units in September 2023, thereby showing almost consistent year-on-year (YoY) demand.

Another consistent performer in the sales chart is Hyundai, which retailed more than 54,000 units in September 2023, maintaining a consistent MoM demand. Last month, Hyundai launched the facelifted i20 and i20 Line.

Tata maintained the third position in the sales table while registering a small dip of 1.5 percent in MoM sales. The Indian automaker also launched the Tata Nexon and Tata Nexon EV facelifts in the same period.

With more than 41,000 units sold in September 2023, Mahindra was close on the heels of Tata, posting an MoM sales growth of nearly 11 percent, and a YoY sales growth of 20.5 percent.

Toyota sold more than 22,000 units in September 2023 with an MoM growth of almost 6 percent, and witnessed the highest YoY growth of over 44 percent.

Kia dispatched over 20,000 cars in September 2023, registering a growth of over 4 percent in MoM sales, although its YoY sales declined by almost 23 percent.

MG climbed up one spot in the sales table by selling over 5,000 units in September 2023. It registered an MoM sales growth of 19.5 percent and a YoY growth of more than 31 percent.

Skoda and Volkswagen were at the bottom, as they did not retail even 5,000 units each in September 2023. Both brands faced an MoM decline of close to 6.5 percent and 14.5 percent, respectively, last month.
