The i20 N Line is not to be confused with i20 N, which is a true performance model. In essence,, it is a sportier version of the regular i20 in terms of engine response, suspension and exhaust note
Back in February, the i20 N Line had been spied in India. At the time, it wasn't clear if the sportier i20 was coming to India, and Hyundai had stayed mum on the subject. However, since then we have confirmation that the i20 N Line will in fact be launched here. For those of you unaware about the i20 N Line, it is a slightly sportier version of the regular i20 with a sportier, stiffened suspension, eager engine response and rorty exhaust note. Here are five things you can expect when it is launched around Diwali:
1) Don’t Expect Big Changes In The Engine Department
We know the topic is what you should expect, and not what you shouldn’t. However, it is important to set realistic expectations. Hyundai is bringing the i20 N Line to India, and not the i20 N hot hatch. The latter makes power in excess of 200PS and would be way above the budget compared to the standard model. Meanwhile, the i20 N Line runs the same 1-litre turbo-petrol engine already seen on the i20 which makes 120PS and172Nm. However, the torque figure could be upped to 200Nm. Additionally, Hyundai might also offer a 48V mild-hybrid system.
2) Better Handling
While there aren’t going to be big changes in the engine department, we expect big changes in the ride department. To give the i20 N Line more responsive handling, Hyundai is expected to make changes to the suspension. This will likely mean a stiffer setup for better cornering capability in exchange for a ride that would be not-so-compliant for the daily grind.

3) Exterior Changes
While the i20 N Line will still look like an i20 for the most part, there will be quite a few cosmetic changes. The grille will become taller with a N Line logo on it, the fog lamp housing will be redesigned and the lower air dam will be completely removed. To accommodate all these changes, the front bumper will be extensively redesigned. The wheels too should have a different design, however, it’s not yet sure if they will be the same as the European-spec model.
At the back, the i20 N Line’s design will be a bigger departure from the standard hatchback. The redesigned bumper will look massive and it will house reflectors on both sides. There is a triangular fog lamp that has been positioned in the centre. Hyundai will also place dual exhaust tips to boost the hatchback’s sporty credentials. All these design inferences have been taken from the i20 N Line sold in Europe, and we expect to see the same on the India-spec model.
4) Interior Changes
Hyundai will also jazz up the interior of the i20 N Line to match the sporty vibe of the revised exterior. The cabin will feature metal inlays, red accents and the even the steering wheel design could be different. The gear shift lever, at least in case of the automatic transmission, will also be different. To top it up, Hyundai will also offer metal pedals to complete the look. Just like the exterior, all the design details here have been picked up from the European i20 N Line.

5) Price
The i20 is already the most expensive hatchback in its segment but with these host of changes, its price is sure to jump a fair bit. We are expecting the sole i20 N Line variant to be offered from Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 60,000 over the most expensive variant (Asta Opt-Turbo DCT) of the standard i20.
