It seems like 'ache din' (good days) in auto-sector have come to reality as for the month of June, manufacturers witnessed a long gone growth in the passenger car sales. Auto sales in India surged after seeing a decline for 15 successive months. Mostly all the major automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Ford, Toyota and Mahindra & Mahindra reported an increase in the June sales. While the home grown manufacturer Tata Motors and General Motors reported decline in their domestic sales for June 2014.
The excise duty which was supposed to end on June 30, pushed the customers to buy new cars. Till 25th June, Indian auto industry was under a constant fear that whether the excise duty will be extended or not. But last week, Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley extended the excise duty cut benefit till December 31st, 2014. The excise duty cut which was brought by the UPA government was to expire on June 30, but seeing the slow growth Mr. Jaitley extended the excise duty relief. As of now, the excise duty for small cars (under 4m) is 8 per cent and for the mid-size cars it's 20 per cent. While for SUVs and larger cars, the excise duty stands at 24 per cent.

Honda Cars India
Growth 75 per cent. Main Contributor: Honda City
With the huge success of Honda City and Honda Amaze, the automaker with a growth of 75 per cent topped the list. The Japanese manufacturer sold 16,316 cars last month, compared to 9,297 units in June 2013. Honda's latest entrant City clutched the top spot in C segment as the company retailed 7,723 units, while the sales of Amaze stood at 7,075 units. The company also sold 1438 units of hatchback Brio and 80 units of premium SUV CR-V. The company also exported 739 units.
Nissan Motor India Private Limited
Growth 48 per cent. Main Contributor: Nissan Terrano
Nissan India retailed 4,362 units in June 2014 as compared to 2,949 vehicles sold in June 2013, there by equating to 48 per cent sales growth. In the first half of 2014, the manufacturer retailed 14,684 units as compared to 6,268 units for the same period last year which corresponds to 134 per cent sales growth. The company will also launch its C Segment saloon Sunny tomorrow on July 3. With the introduction of new model, the automaker looks to take charge on the growing market of Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Ford India Private Limited
Growth 36 per cent. Main Contributor: Ford EcoSport
Ford India registered 36 percent growth in the month of June 2014. The 'Blue Oval' company sold 11,935 units as against the 8,771 units in the corresponding month last year. In terms of domestic sales, the manufacturer retailed 7,258 cars in the month, as compared to 7,145 cars in the same period year-ago. The American manufacturer also shipped 4,677 units in the same month.
Last month, the manufacturer also launched its 2014 Ford Fiesta at Rs 7.69 lakh (Ex-showroom, New Delhi). Ford offers Fiesta with only a diesel motor having three variants - Ambiente, Trend and Titanium. The existing 1.5 liter TDCi turbo diesel engine is on duty under the hood and delivers amazing fuel efficiency of 25.01kmpl!
Maruti Suzuki
Growth 33 per cent. Main Contributor: Swift siblings
Coming on to the fourth position in our list is the India's largest passengers carmaker Maruti Suzuki. The manufacturer retailed a wobbling 1,00,964 units as against 77,002 units in June 2013. The sales of the company was majorly contributed by the compact segment which includes hatchbacks and compact sedans. In June, the manufacturer sold 47,618 units which compromises of M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR. Moreover, the combined sales of Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Celerio stood at 22,293 units. The company also sold 15,990 units of compact sedan Dzire.
Hyundai Motor India Limited
Growth 9.5 per cent. Main Contributor: Hyundai Grand i10
Hyundai India sold 33,514 units in June 2014 as compared to 30,610 for the same month last year. The company, riding high on the success of its recently launched compact sedan Xcent, witnessed a growth of 9.5 per cent. Hyundai also touched a magical figure of selling more than 90,000 units of Grand i10 in the last eight months. Though in terms of exports, Hyundai witnessed a fall of 29.3 per cent. As the automaker shipped 17,004 units compared to 24,055 vehicles in June 2013.
