Toyota Etios receives a pre sale order of 12,000 cars.

Toyota Motor Corp announced on Wednesday (15th December), that, the Japanese auto company has received huge order for 12,000 Toyota Etios, the sedan version in India. The company opened the booking counters since 1st December, so that the company meets its yearly target of sales for 70,000 cars. Toyota Motors from a long time was planing to invest in mid size sedan segment in the Indian auto market. The Japanese auto giant developed the sedan Toyota Etios, especially for the second fastest growing auto market globally, to enjoy a great market share. Yoshinoro Naritake, the Toyota Etios chief engineer, said that the order for the sedan is much more than what everyone expected in the company. And the orders are flowing in when the sedan is not even available in the showrooms.

Toyota Motors now plans to multiply the sales target to 145,000 cars by next year in India, Toyota Etios contributing to the half of the sales. The company will begin the manufacturing of Toyota Etios in its second manufacturing unit near Bangalore by 20th December. Currently in the production of the sedan Toyota Etios, 70 per cent of the localized components will be used. The Japanese auto giants plans to begin the manufacturing of engines by autumn 2012 and the transmission will be developed in the beginning of 2013. Later, the sedan will have 90 per cent of its components from local sources which will be affixed in Toyota Etios. The Japanese car maker, also looks forward to ship the car model in the other auto markets.

The sedan Toyota Etios, will bring in competition to the already well established cars such as Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Verna, Tata Manza, Volkswagen Vento. Toyota Etios comes with a price tag of Rs 4,96,000 to Rs 6,86,500 which is priced quite competitively in the mid size segment. Noritake said that he camped in India for 40-50 times after he was positioned as the chief engineered in 2006. He also revealed that, Toyota Motors, did not intend to introduce car in lower segment but thought of making brand loyalty with Toyota Etios to lure the Indian buyers towards premium sedans such as Toyota Corolla. Toyota Motors has sold 55,000 cars in the Indian auto market which gives it a share of 2.4 per cent. The auto company from Japan will bring the hatchback Toyota Etios Liva by April 2011.
