Toyota Kirloskar Motors has entered the volume driven car segment in the domestic auto market with its most ambitious car, the sedan Toyota Etios which was launched recently and the hatchback Toyota Etios Liva which will unfold in April, 2011. Toyota Motors banking on these cars says that it expects to double the sales target of 2011. Toyota Etios was introduced almost two weeks back and was competitively priced between Rs 4.96 to 6.85 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and is already in news by registering almost 12,000 orders for the car. Toyota India sold 55,497 units in 2009 and visions to complete the year with sales of more than 73,000 cars. And for next year, the Japanese auto giant plans to sell 70,000 units of its Toyota Etios and Toyota Etios Liva car models with total sales of almost 1.5 lakh cars. Toyota Kirloskar Motors maintains the calendar year as its financial year.

As per the company, the Toyota Etios will be standing in the showrooms by January, next year but if the grapevines are to be believed, if the Toyota Etios is ordered at this time, the delivery may take time of eight to nine months. Toyota Etios has been pitched against the mid segment sedan such as Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Manza, Mahindra Logan and Volkswagen Vento wherein Maruti Swift Dzire takes a time of five to six months in its delivery and for Volkswagen Vento the buyer has to wait for 2 to 3 months. Looking at the Toyota Etios, sales may constricted due to the production capacity. The Toyota Etios will be manufactured at the company's second plant, Bidadi. Koji Nagata, the Executive Marketing Coordinator Director, TKM said that the auto company is expecting to hasten the production in its second facility but has not specified the production figure. The production of the car will depend on the demand of the cars but the Japanese car maker is positive about its progress as it has bagged order for 11,000 Toyota Etios in two weeks time. Toyota has invested and amount of Rs 3,200 crore in its second plant. TKM in Indian auto market has only 3 per cent of the markets share. However, in the luxury sports vehicle (SUV) segment it holds a major share of 55 per cent with its winning Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Innova which accounts for 29 per cent and 30 per cent market share respectively.
