The slowdown in the auto market is evident for all global car makers, with June recording the lowest sales in the past two years. Toyota India June sales tell a different story with 58% hike against its May sales and with 4, 665 units sale of its Toyota Innova MUV (Multi Utility Vehicle), 28% more than its closest rival Mahindra Scorpio SUV, reclaiming its number two position in the SUV, MUV sales in India, closely following Mahindra Bolero. While all the other car models suffered a huge setback during the slowdown in the car market, Mahindra Bolero sales hindered by only 8% and continued to enjoy the number one position. The powerful Mahindra Bolero is back to its normal sales figures of 8,100 units sale after a dip in the April sales due to its demand as an easy-maintenance vehicle in the semi-urban and rural areas.

Now, coming to the premium SUVs with the cost between Rs 17 lakhs –Rs 25 lakhs, in the league of Skoda Yeti, Hyundai Santa Fe; Toyota remains undefeatable with its best-selling Toyota Fortuner, that sells about three times more than its competitor. With the launch of the 4x2 version of Tata Aria coming soon, they can hope to do much better than this. The demand of Skoda Yeti had suffered in the month of June with only 132 units sale. The Chevrolet Captiva had reached the number three position in the SUV, MUV segment of auto market.

However, it has been observed that the petrol-driven SUVs are low in demand at the moment recording only double digit sales with Mitsubishi Outlander selling 41 vehicles, Honda CR-V with only 14 vehicles and Maruti Grand Vitara down to three vehicles sale in the month of June. With the sales figures as low as this, the petrol engine SUVs are likely to extinct in near future.
