Toyota Kirloskar plans to set up engine plant at Bidadi

Placed at the numero uno position amongst the auto biggies across the world, Toyota who works in collaboration with Kirloskar in the rapidly growing Indian auto market has pulled its socks. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TMK) after a long gap of silence made its presence felt in the Indian auto market with the launch of its latest sedan Toyota Etios. Next on the cards is the launch of the hatchback version Toyota Etios Liva which is likely to be unwrapped in April.
Rumours are doing the rounds that Toyota Kirloskar Auto parts (TKAP) has reportedly commenced the construction of its whooping Rs 500 crore engine plant along with the expansion of its transmission plant near Bangalore at Bidadi. Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts is the auto parts arm of the Toyota Industries Corporation, and Kirloskar Systems Ltd, Bangalore.
It is being highly speculated that the idea behind expanding the existing transmission plant and building a new engine plant is a part of the unit localisation project for the recently launched sedan Toyota Etios. It has been reported that around 1 lakh engines will be manufactured effective third quarter of 2012 along with 2.4 lakh transmissions annually starting 2013. TKAP as of now manufactures manual transmissions for the Fortuner manufactured in India, Thailand and Argentina. Apart form that it also produces axles and propeller shafts for its popular car Innova.
The report also suggest that the TKAP Managing Director, Hisashi Suzuki mentioned about the employment which will be generated with the onset of the new facility. He said that there will be a scope for employing 500 employees at TKAP.
