Toyota Motors Corporation intends to launch Etios, its small car, by the end of 2010 or in January 2011 in India. TKM Managing Director Hiroshi Nakagawa said that Etios will be launched by December or January in Indian market and the exports for the same will begin once the car meets its expected target of sale. He further said that the company expects a sales volume of 70,000 units in the first year. Though he did not comment about the price.

Toyota Motors Corporation has a joint venture with Kirloskar Group called Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India. TMC's chief for India commented that they had focused on vehicles like Innova, Corolla and Fortuner. He also added that such variants have constrained the consumer market. That is why the company is moving towards small car manufacturing segment. Nakagawa also said that India is an expanding car market but it is a tough one as well. He further told that TKM was setting up a second separate small car manufacturing plant in Bangalore.

The present production strength of their Banglore plant is 80,000 annually. The second plant which will start functioning by mid-December will produce 70,000 units annually. The capacity of the same will be increased to two lakh units following consumers' demand.
