Toyota Kirloskar Motors is now planning to launch CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) - version of its popular multi-utility vehicle, Toyota Innova in January 2009 to boost the demand of Innova, especially in commercial segment. Toyota has tied up with Minda Industries, which will provide CNG kit for Toyota Innova.
The company official said that they are conducting the trial run for this new variant of Innova, Innova CNG and they should commercially launch this vehicle by the end of January, 2009. The CNG variant of Innova would cost about Rs. 75,000.00 to Rs. 90,000.00 more than the existing variants. This cost will include warranty and installation costs of CNG kit.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors(TKM) launching this vehicle as a joint venture between Toyota Motors and Kirloskar Group in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors faced the drop of 48.55% in sales in November 2008 as compared to the sales in same month of last year. Considering the running cost of CNG is about one third of petrol, so it is expected that the launch of CNG version of Innova will boost up the sales of Innova.
The company has also announced on Monday to cut down its production in India due to the economic slow down which impact the auto market which results fall in sales of passenger car. Toyota Kirloskar Motors(TKM) has cuts down its production by 30% in the month of December.
