World’s largest car manufacturer is always known for the premium cars in the country. The demand for small entry-level cars did not budge the car manufacturer from introducing the premium cars. The generations old Toyota Corolla is the perfect example to postulate the Toyota cars success in India. And now, the car manufacturer is likely to introduce the revamped version of their best-selling sedan in 2012. Launched way back in 1960s, the car has always maintained its position and stood to be the one to garner a substantial growth for Toyota India. Like any other sedans, Toyota Corolla was made available in the petrol variant initially.

However, catching up with the demand for the diesel cars in India, the auto giant has introduced the diesel variant Toyota Corolla Altis some time back. There is another twist here. The auto major has not introduced the diesel engine in the top variant. Why is this, one would wonder. The fear of increasing the Toyota Corolla price further might have curbed the plans of the auto major to introduce a diesel engine in the top variant. This way, the whole price range is wrapped up between the Rs 10.63 lakhs – Rs 15 lakhs with the top and base variant price included.

Available in four variants, the Toyota Corolla sedan has always proved to be up with a strong competition with Skoda Laura and Volkswagen Jetta in the D segment cars. The 1.8 L petrol engine is coupled with a 5 speed automatic gearbox to churn out some impressive figures. The peak power is 138 Bhp and top torque obtained is 173 Nm.  Once again, the auto major has been impartial with the diesel variant. The 1.4 L D-4D common rail turbo engine is left to compromise with the 6-speed manual gearbox to pump out the 87 bhp peak power and 250 Nm peak torque. From what we hear, a hybrid version of the sedan is also being contemplated by the company.
