You can now choose between performance only and performance with premium comforts
There seems to be no stopping or even slowing down the SUV trend in India. The market’s expectations from the compact SUV segment have expanded over time to offer more than just a higher ground clearance and a comfy cabin. These days, carmakers are also offering a bit more performance with turbocharged petrol engines. At this point, we have the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, and now the Renault Duster. Before we compare prices, let’s look at the performance their turbo-petrol engines have to offer:

We have a pair of duos here: the Creta and Seltos share the same engine as do the Kicks and Duster.
-
However, the Renault-Nissan’s turbocharged engine is more powerful, so the Kicks and the Duster are the most powerful models in the segment.
-
The Hyundai Creta is the only one that offers the turbocharged petrol engine with the automatic transmission only. All others get a choice of manual or automatic transmission.
Here’s how the turbo-petrol variants of these SUVs are priced (ex-showroom Delhi):

The Renault Duster is the most affordable turbo-petrol compact SUV by over a lakh. It also has the most affordable automatic option. Renault offers its powerful engine option from the base-spec onwards.
-
Not only are the Renault and Nissan SUVs more powerful, but they’re also more affordable. Of course, the Duster and Kicks are not competing with the Korean SUVs in terms of features or a premium cabin.
-
The entry-level Kia Seltos turbo-petrol is more expensive than the top-spec turbo-petrol Nissan Kicks. It comes equipped with features like a sunroof, connected car technology, head-up display, and built-in air purifier.
-
Hyundai doesn’t offer its turbo-petrol Creta for less than Rs 16 lakh.
-
-
Kia’s turbo-petrol engine with the DCT automatic is the most expensive offering in this list but it also gets more features than the similarly priced Creta option.
