Upcoming SUVs in India

This year the Indian auto market had already seen many new SUVs, not only in entry level price segment but also in premium segment. SUV segment in India seems to be heating up, proving it right are the number of SUV India launched lined up for the fiscal year 2011. The upcoming SUVs in India are Mahindra Korando, Mahindra W201, Mahindra Mini Xylo, Tata Merlin, Renault Koleos and Skoda Fabia Scout. Mahindra Korando would be the first upcoming SUV now, this SUV is proposed to be launched in the month of July but there are still chances that this launch can be postponed by Mahindra as the all new – Mahindra World SUV is also expected to be launched somewhere by next month. Mahindra Korando price in India is expected to be around Rs. 15 lakh.

This new SUV has stylish swept back headlamps, a large mesh front grille and diamond shaped fog lamps and 17-inch wheels.  Mahindra Kornado is powered by a 2.0L turbo diesel engine that produces 173 bhp of max power with six speed manual transmission system and offers a good fuel economy of around 16 kmpl. Mahindra W201 is another upcoming SUV to be launched in India this year. The SUV is expected to be launched in the month of September this year. Mahindra W201 Price is expected to be between Rs. 11.5 lakh to Rs. 14 lakh. This new SUV features seven slat grille, day-time running headlamps, turn indicators on the rear view mirrors and will have a larger dimension than any Mahindra product in India. The SUV is powered with 2.2 litre mHawk engine that will produce around 138 bhp and the car will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The company is also launching another SUV named Mahindra Mini Xylo, it is also expected to be launched in the month of October. Upcoming Mahindra Mini Xylo price is expected to be around Rs. 7 lakh/- INR.

Tata Merlin is also another SUV to be launched in India by this festive season. Tata Merlin price is expected to be somewhere between Rs. 9.33 lakh to 14.51 lakh (on-road, Delhi) .The engine specifications include its 2.2 litre Dicor engine that is expected to make around 140 bhp of maximum power with G-76 gearbox. Renault India is also planning to launch its Renault Koleos, this car also comes under SUV segment. The car is expected to be launched in the month of November. Renault Koleos price is expected to be around Rs. 20-25 lakh. The Renault Koleos will be powered by a 1,995 cc (2.0 litre) diesel motor that produces 150 bhp of maximum power and 320 Nm of maximum torque. Skoda India is also working aggressively to launch its Skoda sub 10 lakh SUV in India. This SUV is supposed to be powered with a 1.6 L diesel engine. The Czesh auto giant is all set to gun straight against the other SUVs in India which have already carved a niche for itself. However the launch date is unknown but it is expected to hit the Indian roads this fiscal year.
