Volkswagen has been developing the new 1.5-litre diesel engine for the Indian market and there has been no hiding in that. The updated Polo and the Vento will be launched sometime in May or June this year with these new engine options.
The 1.5-litre diesel will be introduced to avail the excise benefit and reduce the cost of the two vehicles. This 1.5-litre engine has been derived from the 1.6-litre oil burner and will be a four-cylinder mill too. The Polo will have an 89bhp tuned while the Vento shall get the same 103bhp and 250Nm of torque. The idea is not to detune it, but rather have the same output with a smaller engine.
The 1.5-litre engine has been locally developed and Volkswagen will add another surprise to this package, as it will be getting this engine with a five-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission too. This will make the Polo as the first diesel hatchback to have a seven-speed automatic transmission. Expect some more interior features on the Polo and Vento too. An in-built colour infotainment system with satellite navigation, reverse parking camera etc could also be seen on the upgraded Polos and Ventos.
