The Volkswagen Ameo has been showcased on multiple occasions and the German automaker has confirmed that the car will come with the company’s highly revered 7-speed automatic gearbox. Now, for the first time, the compact sedan was spotted sporting the DSG. The spyshots reveal details of the car’s interiors, such as like the mirrorlink infotainment system, steering- mounted Cruise control buttons, automatic climate control unit, etc.
The spied car features a silver paint job, as a result of which, one can easily spot the design accents on the stubby boot. The diagonal lines running across the boot reminds us of those on the boot of the Skoda Rapid.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the 1.5- litre TDi engine will be offered with the automatic gearbox. The diesel engine is capable of producing 105 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. VW is reportedly strapping on a relatively larger turbocharger onto the motor as well. It is expected that the Ameo will get a 2 PS/10 Nm bump in specs with the larger turbo.
The same engine- gearbox combo has been successful in the Vento sedan. It is also important to note that the Ameo will be the only car in its class to feature a diesel engine mated to a dual clutch automatic transmission. It's contemporaries, like such as the Swift Dzire and the Tata Zest, offer an AMT in the same segment.
The diesel variant will be ideal for highway mile munching. For someone looking to drive within the city, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPi petrol engine will be on offer as well. The petrol variant comes with a reduced power output, which stands at 75 PS and 110 Nm of torque. The motor will come coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
We expect the Ameo to be priced competitively against its rivals such as the Ford Figo Aspire, and the Maruti Swift Dzire, with prices starting at around Rs. 5.5 lakh.
