Volkswagen, the Europeans largest car maker, started production its popular mass-market Volkswagen polo hatchback in India on saturday and said it aimed to catch up to 10 per cent fast growing auto mobile market within the next six years. The Volkswagen Polo a compact hatchback, Volkswagen's rolled out its first locally manufacture from its plant, which is staying in Pune, Western India. The Pune plant capacity to produce 110,000 cars annually, is a key plank in Volkswagen's India strategy. Company has committed US$850 million in the plant, its biggest investment so far in India. Spokesman of Volkswagen Kurt Rippholz told reporters that the company turned into India since 2001, now holds 1.5 per cent of the Indian Market. The Indian price for the polo has not yet been unveil. Spokesman said, Volkswagen will be launched in the mass-market segment and hence this is a important step. The Volkswagen Polo has won more than 130,000 booked when polo's new model was launched in Europe. Volkswagen said its goal to zoomed to 80 per cent localization of total production from 50 per cent now. Global auto majors General Motors, Nissan, Ford and Volkswagen have been slow come alive to the particularities of Indian consumers. Ford has made in India first compact Ford Figo, which will go for sales in the first quarter in the next year. Nissan also said that its first India-made cars - a new hatchback versions Nissan micra and Nissan March will also introduce in may 2010. General Motors had began India production of its small Chevrolet-Spark in September 2008 and now company is planning to launch a new Chevrolet Beat in the first half of 2010. Volkswagen has also recently launched a new SUV's models Volkswagen Beetle and Volkswagen Touareg in India.
