Auto Industry seems to be at its full throttle this year with a new announcement every passing day. The latest coming in from the eminent house of Volkswagen is that they are developing a compact SUV based on their popular hatchback, Polo. The speculations are that the Volkswagen SUV will be out somewhere in the year 2014. There are however are no official launch dates or revelations that are made by the VW Group yet.
This speculated Volkswagen SUV will be Volkswagen’s answer to Dacia/Renault Duster and Ford EcoSports and the likes. It seems to be a good move from the company as this segment is growing multifold around the world, especially in the emerging markets. Volkswagen Group has already proved its mettle in this segment with the Audi Q3 along with the successful European market Volkswagen Tiguan.
Rumor has it that this new upcoming compact will be based on the MQB platform which is also the same one that is used for the 2014 Volkswagen Polo. This ‘Modular Transverse Matrix’ (MQB) allows VW to design wide range of front-wheel drive models using the transverse engine mounting. It however is expected that the SUV might get a 4-wheel drive option as well, along with the standard 2-wheel drive. Further, it is expected to come in with both, Automatic transmission as well as Manual Transmission option.
Stay tuned and watch this space for more updates on the new Volkswagen Polo based SUV.
