With the addition of the new edition of the Polo hatchback on its website, Volkswagen has unveiled the Polo ALLSTAR in the Indian market. Except a few added bits from the Ameo, it remains a standard Polo, both inside and out. In fact, the Polo ALLSTAR can pretty much be called an 'Ameo without a boot'. It even comes in the Blue Silk colour which was launched in the Ameo. The Polo ALLSTAR will continue to rival the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and the Hyundai Elite i20. Let's have a detailed look at the car to see what all has been added over the standard Polo.
The most striking change in the exterior is the new alloy wheels. Carrying the same 185/65 R15 configuration, these 15-inch alloys have a new design and look striking. Apart from that, the car has 'ALLSTAR' badging on the B-pillars. Other than the Ameo’s Blue Silk paint scheme, the ALLSTAR will also be available in Reflex Silver, Candy White, Flash Red and Toffy Brown shades. The Copper Orange and Carbon Steel shades have not been carried forward from the Polo to the ALLSTAR.
Inside, there a lot more changes than the outside. Like the Ameo, the Polo ALLSTAR gets a front centre armrest with storage and rear-AC vents. Additionally, the car gets aluminium paddles, new seat upholstery with vertical contrast stripes, and ALLSTAR-branded sill plates. Mechanically, the ALLSTAR will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol mill will be the 1.2-litre MPI which produces 75PS of peak power and 110Nm of torque. The diesel mill will be the 1.5-litre TDI which has an output of 90PS/230Nm. Both of these engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Volkswagen Polo ALLSTAR is a much better package than the standard Polo. The addition of the front armrest and the rear AC vents makes it more practical, whereas the new 15-inch alloy wheels make the hatchback look a lot better. We expect the ALLSTAR to be priced around Rs 50,000 above the top-end (Highline) Polo TDi and MPi. Expect a price of Rs 7.5 lakh for the petrol and close to Rs 9 lakh for the diesel.
For reference, the Ameo diesel/manual Highline is priced at Rs 8.24 lakh and the petrol/manual Highline is priced at Rs 7.13 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ameo comes with more features than the ALLSTAR and, not to forget, a 330-litre boot. Since the two, Ameo and Polo ALLSTAR are so closely priced, let’s look at the similarities and differences between the two.
Similarities
- Polo ALLSTAR comes with a front centre armrest with storage
- Rear AC vents
- Rear cup holder
- 1.2-litre MPI petrol engine
Differences
- Polo ALLSTAR has a less powerful 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine (90PS not 110PS)
- No automatic DSG gearbox
- No reverse camera
- Smaller boot space (280-litres not 330-litres)
