Volkswagen Polo, a compact hatchback which was launched in India on 23rd of February, 2010, is receiving a very good response in the country, as it has received a whooping 5,000 bookings since its launch in Feb. However, the buyers have to wait for 3 to 4 months after booking the vehicle as company will take this much of time to deliver this vehicle.

The Polo car was showcased at the Delhi Auto expo in January and the model attracted a large number of visitors and automobile enthusiasts. The new Polo was launched with a price tag of Rs. 4.34 lakh (ex showroom New Delhi), but now it is available at Rs. 4.42 lakh (New Delhi Ex-showroom) due to 2% excise duty hike by the government, announced in the Union Budget. The deliveries of the new 1.2L 75HP Polo petrol variant has already been started across 42 Volkswagen dealerships. Delivery of the Polo 1.2L diesel variant will start from May 2010.

The petrol variant of Volkswagen Polo is powered with a 1.2 litre engine which is able to generate a maximum power of 75HP @ 5400 rpm along with a Torque of 110NM@3750 rpm. On the other hand the diesel variant is coming with a 1.2 litre engine with an output of 75HP@4200 rpm along with a torque of 180 NM @ 2000 rpm. The Polo is available in three trim levels including Highline, Comfortline and Trendline and it is paired with a 5-speed manual gear box.

If we talk about the interiors of the Polo model than, it is equipped with storage compartments in front doors and a sun-glass storage inside glove box. Besides this, it has folding rear seat backrests and the two-tone dashboard which makes it a fully loaded and comfortable hatchback.

The competition in this segment is going to be very tough in coming months as there are many upcoming cars in India which are in the process of their launch in this segment, including Toyota Etios (Dec 2010), Nissan Micra (March 2011) and Honda's new Small car (Dec 2010).
