Volkswagen Polo wins Car of the Year Award, Ford BMW, Volvo honored too

Volkswagen Polo, the hatchback from German car manufacturer has been honoured with the “Business Standards Car of the Year” award on 11th January 2011. The award was presented in an event which was attended by the auto industry biggies in Mumbai, adding a tinge of Bollywood in it was Chitrangada Singh. The jury members included premium names from the auto industry.
The competition in the new car category was immense as 10 new cars participated for the number one position. All the car models which were launched in 2010 were eligible for the category.
Volkswagen Polo, the hatchback was rolled out in February 2010 and was competing against cars like Toyota Etios, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Vento, Tata Aria, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Wagon R, BMW 5 and Skoda Yeti for this award.

The five seator sold at a price of Rs 4.54 lakh left behind some of the biggest names in the auto industry in India. It is German car maker's first step in breaking the dominance of Maruti Suzuki.
Ford Motor India won the special jury award for gaining accelerating sales volume for its newly launched compact car Ford Figo. Nigel Wark the Executive Director in Marketing, Sales and Services for Ford India, received the award.
In the SUV segment which has recently gained momentum, Hyundai Santa Fe the newly launched SUV received “the SUV of the Year Award” for 2010. Currently Hyundai Santa Fe is the costliest car model from Hyundai. From the company's side Arvind Saxena the Director (Marketing & Sales) for Hyundai Motors India received the award.

BMW India was honoured with “the Premium Car of the Year award” for its super luxurious BMW 5 Series executive saloon. The German ultra luxury brand is also accelerating the sales charts and from the company Rodney Woods the Director Finance, BMW India accepted the award.
“The Premium Sports Utility Vehicle Award” was given to Porsche Cayenne. Mercedes- Benz was recgonised as “the Performance Car of the Year” for SLS AMG.

“The Motorsport Excellence Award” was won by Volkswagen Motorsport for contributing, popularising and bringing professionalism in the motorsport India. Volkswagen Group India Chacko and Head of VW Motorsport Prithviraj Siddappa accepted the award.
“The Automotive Pioneer of the Year Award” was won by Volvo XC60 which was accepted by Paul de Voijs, the Managing Director, Volvo Auto India. The SUV has spread its magic as the car comes with various safety features which are not often seen in India.
