Volkswagen has brought Passat GTE at the ongoing automobile event, the 2016 Auto Expo. The environment-friendly sedan gets a 1.4 litre petrol engine, coupled to an electric motor. The sedan has a second-generation in car infotainment system that features touch screen, USB and Bluetooth. Driver convenience is taken care off, as the automaker has equipped the vehicle with driver assistance system.
The 1.4-litre TSI petrol mill can generate 154 bhp of power. This powerhouse combined with an electric drive can churn out a maximum power of 215 bhp and enables a driving range of around 1000 kms. Moreover, the car can run for approximately 50 kms on electric drive alone. Passat GTE offers a glimpse to automobile enthusiasts interested in the new Passat (to be launched by the carmaker), as it will largely be the same. Passat was first revealed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. In India, it will rival the likes of upcoming Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Skoda Superb. Deliberating on specifications of the sedan, it seems the competitors will not have an easy time with Passat. For those who aspire to own the hybrid variant of Passat, will have to wait longer, as the current scenario of electric cars in the country is grim.
Volkswagen has also brought Tiguan and Ameo to the event. While Tiguan is a cross over which sports a more SUV like character, Ameo is Volkswagen’s latest offering in India. Ameo is also the company’s only compact sedan in the country.
