Volkswagen to raise Indian market share to 20% by 2018

By the year 2018, Volkswagen is planning to capture 20 per cent share of the automobile market of India by rolling out 5 million cars, stated a company official recently. Dietmar Hildebrandt , director (group service), National Sales Corporation, Volkswagen India Private Limited commented that their present share of market in Indian automobile market is 2.6 per cent and they are planning to raise it to at least twenty per cent by the year 2018. He further added that as per the estimates by the company, they have got a plan of rolling out around 5 million cars in the Indian automobile market by the year 2018. Dietmar has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an educational group that hails from Punjab. Dietmar was also quoted saying that they are quite serious about the auto market of India and till now, the response from the Indian customers has been quite satisfying and motivating. He further added that the company has got many other plans which are sure to be executed in the years ahead. The company is also mulling over its plan of producing those models and variants for which the customers of India are searching for. Dietmar also said that even Punjab auto market is also very good for the high-end cars for the company.
Regarding the sales of the newly introduced Volkswagen Polo car, Dietmar stated that he is not too sure about the exact figures but depending upon the current reports, more than 15,000 Volkswagen polo cars have been sold. He also said that the company desires to set a powerful dealer-network. At present, the company has got one hundred fifty dealerships all over India. In the coming eight years, Volkswagen is planning to increase this dealerships’ number to one thousand. The business of Volkswagen in India is progressing at a good speed and the company is planning to recruit about three thousand more technicians in its plants in the coming five years, said Dietmar. In India, the Volkswagen company has got its headquarters at Pune, Maharashtra and is represented by three brands in India that are Audi and Skoda.
