VW to launch Polo in early 2010

Volkswagen India (VW) is gearing up to roll out the Polo, its first small car, in India in the early 2010. This car is to be pitted against Maruti Swift and Hyundai i10. VW aims to sell 30,000 units of the car in the first year and targets to cross 1 lakh mark by 2014. The Polo will be a A2 compact car and priced accordingly. The Polo, with 50 per cent localisation, will have a new platform. The car will be an Indian avatar with German technology. The company confirms that it will be produced in its India plant at Chakan, Pune. The compact car will be launched in petrol and diesel variant. Neeraj Garg, Director, Passenger Cars Division, of the VW Group says that VW Golf also slated to launch in 2010 only. He said that no more fresh investment will be done until the Chakan plant reaches it full capacity that is 110,000 units on a single shift. Tata Indigo Vista IGNIS is also to be launched in India very soon.
