Offering a diesel could spruce the overall sales of the slow selling Datsun portfolio in the country!
Datsun will be showcasing Go Cross concept at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. It made its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show last month. It will be a very crucial product for Datsun India, as the crossover segment in the country is growing rampantly and being a Datsun, it will have an aggressive pricing. The concept is basically based on the Go+ mico MPV, but gets distinctive face along with body enhancement to add a unique character when compared to Go+.
Besides the Koleos’ 2.0l dCi diesel, Renault-Nissan only has various tunes of the 1.5l diesel motor, which has been used from Micra to Fluence, in the country. The engine in question here might be the 85 PS version, of the one found in the Duster and Lodgy. Datsun may also offer the 65 PS version from Micra to keep prices in check. Putting a diesel will help in pulling the slightly increased weight of the crossover version effortlessly, while increased torque will add to the fun factor. On the other hand, petrol is expected to be the same as 1.2-liter found in Go and Go+ .
Speaking of the prices, just how Go+ is marginally costlier than the Go hatch, on similar lines, Go Cross will be slightly costlier than Go+. This will make the Go Cross end up somewhere in the price range of B-segment hatches, including the recently launched Mahindra KUV100. Featuring a diesel certainly makes it a more promising buy in this space.
