Freelander 2 S Review
Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury car manufacturer has introduced the price cut version of its flagship SUV Land Rover Freelander 2. This SUV is christened as Land Rover Freelander 2 S Business Edition and it has been brought to the Indian markets as a CKD (completely knocked down) version. The company has kept all the specifications of the new S Business Edition will be same as the existing version of the Freelander 2. This new trim is the base variant and it costs approximately Rs. 2 lakh (ex-showroom) cheaper than the existing base version. The company has removed some features from this SUV, which include front door puddle lamps, sunroof, rear camera, powered front seats, driver and front co-passenger arm rest as well. Apart from these, this new version of Freelander 2 gets the 4.2 inch non touch color display instead of 7 inch touchscreen display. The smaller display has been incorporated with a 6 speaker audio system. The rest of the features of the SUV will remain to be the same as the existing version, and it will be powered by the same 2.2-litre TD4 turbo diesel engine, which is coupled with a six speed automatic transmission gearbox. The lesser expensive version of Land Rover Freelander 2 will look to lure more customers across the automobile segment in India.
Exterior:
In terms of exterior style and design, Jaguar Land Rover 2 Freelander S Business Edition is the same as its existing variants. Thus, you can expect that this new version comes with a bold and aggressive look like the existing trims in its model lineup. The front facade has been designed with a very stylish radiator grille. The grille has an expressive design on it and it has been garnished in chrome. The radiator grille has been surrounded by large headlight cluster, incorporated with projector headlamps and turn indicators in it. The tip of the sleek bonnet gets the company badging written on it. While below there is a body colored bumper that makes this SUV look rugged and it houses an air dam along with round shaped fog lights. When it comes to the side profile, the wheel arches are fitted well with 17-inch six spoke alloy wheels with company badging, which have been further covered with a robust set of tubeless radial tyres. Further more, the door handles and the external rear view mirrors are in body color. One can also notice the side skirts under the body of side profile, which brings a sportier appeal to this SUV. The rear profile of the newly launched SUV looks muscular, but the chrome accents and the stylish tail lamp cluster make it look like a premium SUV. Apart from this, you will notice the rear spoiler, a high mounted stop lamp, bumper cladding and a large windshield, which also has a wash and wipe function on the rear profile.
Interior:
The interior cabin section of the SUV is very plush and it has been designed with high quality materials, which gives a soothing effect to the eyes. There is ample amount of space inside the cabin thanks to the generous headroom, shoulder room and leg space. As soon as you enter the vehicle, you will find the seating arrangement covered with premium leather upholstery, the steering wheel and the gear knob has also been covered in premium leather cladding. The interior section of the SUV is offered with 60:40 rear split seats, which will add to the utility and also help bringing in a lot of luggage, whenever required. The seats are offered in almond grain leather as standard in this variant. There are several other standard features offered with this SUV that include map pockets, a 12 V power socket, front and rear carpet mats, internal rear view mirror with manual dipping and many other such features.
Engine and Performance:
The all new Land Rover Freelander 2 S Business Edition is blessed with the same old engine, which powers the existing variants. This new version sports a 2.2-litre TD4 turbo diesel engine that has the displacement capacity of about 2179cc. The turbo diesel engine has the ability to produce a commanding power of about 147.9bhp at 4000rpm and yields a hammering 420Nm of superior torque output at 1750rpm. The company claims that this engine has the ability to reach 100kmph speed in just about 11.2 seconds, which is remarkable and can reach a top speed of 181kmph that is rather exciting for the occupants. Its engine has been skillfully equipped with an advanced 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox with CommandShift that enables this SUV to deliver top class performance. According to the company, this SUV has the ability to return a maximum mileage of about 12.39kmpl, which is rather good for such a powerful SUV.
Braking and Handling:
The front wheels of this SUV comes fitted with ventilated disc brakes, while the rear wheels have been assembled with conventional disc brakes. This disc braking mechanism is further enhanced by some of the advanced braking mechanisms like the electronic brake force distribution system, emergency brake assist and cornering brake control system as well. This SUV's front and rear axles have been assembled with Independent coil springs and anti roll bar type of a suspension mechanism, which takes care of the vehicle's agility and stability on roads. On the other hand, its advanced power assisted steering system will further offer superior driving dynamics by providing instant response.
Comfort Features:
The all new Land Rover Freelander 2 S Business Edition comes with lots of comfort features, which makes the journey joyful without any discomfort. Its features include an automatic air conditioning system, electric front and rear windows with one touch operation, front console storage compartment, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, a smoker's pack, driver instrument panel and cluster, a multifunction steering wheel with mounted controls and wrapped in leather and several other such features. This SUV also has cruise control, an advanced infotainment system with USB, Auxiliary input and Bluetooth connectivity as well.
Safety Features:
The British luxury car maker has incorporated some top of the line safety features to this SUV that assures safety of the vehicle and the passengers inside. The list of its safety functions include an electronic traction control, perimetric alarm based air bags, a dynamic stability control, roll stability control, a remote central locking with drive away locking, keyless entry, cornering brake control and many other such advanced features.
