The success of Polo has been a very big deal for Volkswagen India. On the crisply styled shoulders of this all-new hatchback rests not just the weight of its own future, but the hopes of VW India in the hatchback segment. This next generation model has in it style, advanced technology, power and comfort along with its classy and elegant looks that makes it irresistible. Price of this hatchback has been set competitively so that it would give a tough competition to the other hatchbacks like Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Fiat Punto, Hyundai i20 and Honda Brio. The Polo has some stunning design details, particularly the headlights and the tail lights. Both the exterior and the interior of the car are paid a great attention, because of which no other in its class has such a mature and high-end image. The car is dressed with many interesting features that makes it interior look very impressive. There are also many things in the comfort section of the car to provide you a comfortable ride. The car under its hood carries a 103bhp 4 cylinder petrol engine that comes with a displacement of 1598cc . The mileage of the car is also good and produces a decent amount of power and torque to provide a good acceleration and pickup. The standard features of the car include the Air conditioner, CD player in the infotainment section, ABS with EBD to improve the brake mechanism and avoid skidding of car, power windows and power steering with central locking.
Exterior
Volkswagen Polo is a stylish hatchback and comes equipped with an array of features to make its exterior look appealing. In the front the car has got a sleek grille with the Volkswagen emblem between the two stylish headlamps. To make it look a bit sporty the front and rear bumpers, ORVMs and the door handles are in the body color . The looks of this car are very mature and totally stand apart from the other hatchbacks like the Fiat Grande Punto or the New Honda Jazz. The Squarish tail lamps at the rear side of the car may not be new in design but still they go with the design and add beauty to the overall looks of the car. Volkswagen Polo IPL II Petrol Highline is the top end variant of the Polo so it has many advanced features in it like the front and rear fog lights, rear window wiper and defogger and tinted glass. The alloy wheels also add some extra beauty to the side profile of the car. The length, breadth and the height of the car are 3790mm x 1682mm x 1453mm respectively and the wheelbase is 2456mm.
Interior
Volkswagen has put complete comfort at our disposal, so once inside the car there would be no looking back. The main attraction in the front of the car would be the electronic multi function display that provides information on the fuel consumption; current and average, range, journey distance, odometer and time. Other interior features in this model are Air Conditioner, Adjustable steering column, Tachometer, Electronic Multi Trip Meter, Fabric Upholstery, Glove Compartment and cigarette lighter. If compared to other hatchbacks in the same price range the interior features of Polo are far better except that it lags leather seats and outside temperature display. In the infotainment section the car has in it CD player with radio and both front and rear speakers.
Engine and Performance
The car is powered by a 1.6 l in-line enginethat churns out a maximum of 103bhp at the rate of 5250rpm and a peak torque of 153Nm at the rate of 3750Nm. This 4 cylinder engine has 4 valves per cylinder and MPFI fuel Injection system . The hatchback delivers a mileage of 10.5kmpl in the city driving conditions and of 15kmpl on the highways. The fuel tank capacity of the car is 45 liters, so that we can cover an average distance of 585kms once full tank. The power and torque generated by the engine can accelerate the car from 0-100kmph in just 11.1 seconds and has a top speed of 183.8kmph. The engine comes mated with a 5 speed gearbox with a manual transmission system. If compared to others the car leads in terms of mileage but lags behind in power and acceleration.
Braking and Handling
The car in the front has large disc brakes while in the rear it has drum brakes to ensure effective braking. To enhance the brake mechanism it incorporates ABS (Anti Lock Braking system) that allows the wheels to continue interacting tractively with road surface as directed by driver steering inputs while braking, preventing the tyre from locking up and avoiding skidding. The suspension system in the car includes the McPherson Strut with stabilizer bar in the front and the semi independent trailing arm at the rear to avoid any bumps, noises and vibrations and provide a comfortable ride. Volkswagen Polo IPL II 1.6 Petrol Highline has in it a power steering with tilt and telescopic steering column providing this car a minimum turn radius of 4.97m. The car has 15 inch alloy wheels with tyre size of 185/60 R15 that maintain a firm grip on the road for better braking .
Safety Features
The car is packed with advanced features to ensure the safety of the driver and the passenger. Central locking, power door locks, child safety locks, Anti-theft alarm , day and night rear view mirror and passenger rear view mirror, front and rear seat belts with seat belt warning, adjustable seats and keyless entry are some of the basic ones while the advanced safety features include ABS, driver and passenger airbag , Halogen headlamps and engine immobilizer.
Comfort Features
This mid segment hatchback offers a lot of advanced features to ensure higher level of comfort and convenience. It includes power steering, front and rear power windows, remote trunk opener and fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light, trunk light, vanity mirror, rear seat headrest, height adjustable front seat belts, cup holder and seat lumbar support .
