Here's How The Skoda Kushaq Is The Safest Family Car In India

The SUV is the first made-in-India car to score a perfect five-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection 

Considering how well-built and engineered Skoda cars are, we were expecting the Kushaq to pass crash tests with flying colours. But as we look at the results from the newly updated and more stringent Global NCAP protocols, it is evident that the Kushaq has aced it and is currently one of the safest cars in India. Helping the SUV achieve this feat is a host of safety features along with a well-designed, crash-absorbent body structure. 

As part of the India 2.0 project, the Kushaq is built on the made-in-India, made-for-India, highly localised MQB-A0-IN platform. Skoda had promised that safety will not be compromised with the localisation and development of the platform for India. Skoda designed the MQB-A0-IN to meet and exceed the requirements and safety norms and it shows. The Kushaq scored 42 out of 49 child protection scores, the highest for any Indian-made vehicle tested by Global NCAP. The SUV also scored 29.64 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection and its bodyshell integrity was found to be stable. Furthermore, the Kushaq (with and without side airbags) was also subjected to 50kmph side impact tests which fared well with good protection for the head, abdomen, and pelvis.

As standard Skoda offers dual front airbags, ESC, ABS, EBD, traction control, rollover protection, multi-collision braking, motor slip regulation, three-point seatbelts for all five seats, ISOFIX child seat anchorage for rear seats and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Furthermore, the Kushaq also comes with six airbags, and hill hold control. The SUV is priced from Rs 11.29 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes with two engine options: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol (115PS/178Nm) and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit (150PS/250Nm).
