Sitting notches above its standard version, the all-new Hyundai i20 Turbo with 120PS is the most powerful hatchback in the segment.

Hyundai i20 puts the ‘premium’ in premium hatchbacks, and now in the third generation, it gets a turbo upgrade as well. The engine is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit that belts out 120PS and 172Nm. Transmission options include a 7-speed dual-clutch (DCT) and intelligent manual transmission (iMT). Check out what makes the all-new i20 Turbo a class above:

Sporty Exteriors: Hyundai’s new design language effortlessly integrates form with function, and with the i20 Turbo, this expression has got an extra dose of sportiness. Upfront, an imposing frameless grille with the red Turbo badging shows that this is a force to reckon with. The LED projector headlamps look smart, and the dynamic vertical fog lamps give it the extra edge. In profile, the i20 Turbo gets a rising shoulder line with a sharp character line, as it merges with the roof panel towards the back. The Z-shaped tail lamps are a distinctive element of the rear styling. Other design highlights on the i20 Turbo include 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, shark-fin antenna, electric sunroof, and a dual-tone paint scheme.

Smart Interiors: The sporty theme continues on the inside too, with the i20 Turbo’s all-back interiors. The leather upholstery, coupled with the red stitching on the seats, lends a premium feel to the cabin. Giving the cabin a truly modern look is the digital instrument cluster along with a 26.03-cm touchscreen that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible. All controls are within easy reach, while the toggle switches deserve special mention.

The Hyundai i20 Turbo gets a 2580mm wheelbase, which offers adequate legroom and knee room for rear passengers also. The all-new i20 is also the widest car in its class and can easily accommodate three full-sized adults at the back. Rear passengers also get air-con vents and a USB charging point for added convenience.

Power-Packed Performance: The Hyundai i20 Turbo is powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120PS and 172Nm of max torque. The car is quick, making the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 9.9 seconds. The refinement level is impressive, while the flexible motor allows the driver to access power throughout the rev-range. The best part is that the performance doesn’t come at the expense of fuel-efficiency, considering the all-new i20 gives an ARAI-rated mileage of 20.28 kmpl.

Transmission Options: The i20 Turbo can be had either with a 7-speed DCT or an intelligent manual transmission (iMT). The DCT unit is quick, snappy, and does a great job of keeping the engine in the right gear. It’s seamless, considering shifts are almost imperceptible. This, coupled with the superb refinement of the motor, makes for an enjoyable driving experience. What’s more? A ‘Sport’ mode that can amp up the performance further. You can also opt for the iMT option if you want to get rid of the clutch pedal without sacrificing the engaging experience of manual gear shifts. This revolutionary two-pedal transmission system is another first (for the Indian market) from Hyundai, and offers a cost-effective alternative for automatic transmissions.

Uncompromised Practicality: The Hyundai i20 Turbo scores equally well on practicality. It comes with 170mm ground clearance, which means you need not worry about scraping the underbelly of the car on bad roads or while negotiating tall speed-breakers. The 311-litre boot space is decent, while the 37-litre fuel tank ensures outstanding range.

Conclusion: Hyundai i20 Turbo offers an optimum mix of style, performance, and practicality. It looks appealing, comes loaded with new-age features, and offers a choice between the quick DCT and practical iMT. Also, Hyundai has taken cabin comfort to a whole new level with its best-in-class width, which makes the i20 Turbo the most spacious car in its segment.
