The 2016 Indian Auto Expo was one of the biggest motor show ever held on the Indian soil and speaking of sizable events and soil, we also learned of the upcoming range of utility vehicles, which will make their way to the Indian market soon. So, let’s have a look at the top 5 highly anticipated SUVs that will be making their way to us this year.
5) Hyundai Tucson
Not only is Hyundai rejoicing the fact that its car sales have re-opened via CSDs but the Korean automaker is also all set to re-introduce its premium compact SUV, the Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market. The SUV will be placed between Hyundai Creta and Santa-Fe and will be priced around Rs. 20 lac. Under the hood, the car will feature a 2.0-litre 182bhp diesel motor, which will come coupled to 6-speed automatic gearbox. The car is expected to be launched sometime in the second half of 2016, so look out Skoda Yeti.
4) Tata Hexa
Tata Hexa is all set to claim your appreciation. Tata’s upcoming offering will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and with the practicality of 7-seats, its chances look rather promising. Under the hood, this crossover will feature Tata’s 2.2 litre Varicor turbo diesel engine, which produces 154bhp and 400Nm in the Safari Storme SUV. The car is expected to either be launched next month or in April 2016.
3) Honda BR-V
Honda’s upcoming offering for the nation’s largest growing compact SUV segment, the Honda BR-V is expected to make its way to us soon. The mobilio-based SUV is expected to be offered in both 5-seat and 7-seat layout and will rival the likes of Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. Under the hood, this SUV will be powered by 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol and i-DTEC turbo diesel motor, which it will share with the Mobilio MPV.
2) Tata Nexon
Our next offering is also another contender in the compact SUV segment and this time it is Tata who is taking a crack at this segment. With striking looks and a 1.5 litre-4 cylinder turbo diesel motor, which is capable of producing 110bhp of power and 260Nm of peak torque, this sub-4 meter compact SUV will surely give Renault Duster a run for its money.
1) Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza tops our list, as this offering by India’s largest automaker has everything that a compact SUV needs to dominate the segment and there are no two ways about it. Bookings for Brezza are open, unofficially and it is expected that the car will be launched by the end of next month, sometime around the launch of Renault Duster’s facelift. The car will rival the likes of Ford Ecosport and Mahindra TUV300 and powering Brezza in its quest to do so will be its 90PS 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet DDiS turbo diesel engine.
