A 360-degree camera is a convenient and safety feature which comes into play when driving on congested roads or in tight parking spaces
The Indian automotive industry has witnessed many premium features being trickled down from premium and luxury models to more mass-market offerings. These include a touchscreen, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera as well. The last one has become so popular that it’s even reached the hatchback space in our market.
What Is A 360-degree Camera?
Simply put, it is a handy feature that gives you an all-round view of your car and its immediate surroundings, making up for any blind spots and you don’t need to adjust your rearview mirrors each time. Usually, it uses a 4-camera setup, with one placed at the rear (like the usual rearview parking camera), one in the front (usually integrated into the grille design) and one each on the ORVMs. The inbuilt software can stitch these into a 360-degree view, not unlike the configurator on most carmaker’s websites, that you can rotate on your touchscreen infotainment unit, and it also allows for multi-camera viewing.

This feature is essential when in tight parking spots or while driving on crammed roads. It is also commonly referred to as a ‘surround view monitor’ or ‘surround view camera.’ The clarity and depth of the 360-degree camera view improves as you go higher in the price range, but even the most affordable ones are useful.
