10 Things 2025 Tata Harrier EV Gets Over The Hyundai Ioniq 5

Although they aren’t direct competitors, the Harrier EV boasts similar specifications and offers a lot of things over the Ioniq 5

The 2025 Tata Harrier EV was launched recently as the carmaker's flagship electric SUV, with prices starting from Rs 21.49 lakh (introductory ex-showroom, pan-India). While it primarily rivals models like the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3, its broad feature set and similar powertrain specifications powertrain options also make it a more affordable alternative to premium EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is priced at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). 

Interestingly, despite both these EVs not being direct competitors, the Harrier EV manages to offer a few advantages over the Ioniq 5, making it a compelling choice for buyers seeking value without compromising on premium EV appeal. Here’s a list of those advantages.

Bigger Infotainment System

The Tata Harrier EV features a 14.5-inch OLED infotainment system, which is the largest and most advanced ever offered in a Tata car. In comparison, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a smaller 12.3-inch unit. Both systems support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as connected car tech, but the Harrier EV’s larger QLED display offers a more immersive interface experience.

More Powertrain Options

While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a single battery pack, Tata has gone a step ahead and offers the Harrier with two options. You can check out the specifications of both cars in the table below:

It’s not just additional battery packs, the Tata Harrier EV one ups the Ioniq 5. It also comes with an optional all-wheel drivetrain alongside the RWD option. However, do note that the Ioniq 5 sold in some international markets does get the option of all-wheel drive. 

Boost Mode

Not only does the Harrier EV offer a more powerful powertrain setup than the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it also features a Boost mode that delivers an extra surge of power and torque for a few seconds when needed. This can be especially useful for quick overtakes, tackling steep inclines, or navigating demanding terrain with greater ease.

Tata also claims that the AWD Harrier EV can do 0-100 kmph in 6.3 seconds, making it the quickest Tata ever. 

Multi-terrain Modes

The Tata Harrier EV also offers the most terrain modes ever seen on a Tata model, including Normal, Mud Ruts, Rock Crawl, Sand, Snow/Grass, and a Custom setting. This extensive list of off-road-focused modes enhances its capability on varied and challenging terrains. 

In contrast, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 lacks dedicated terrain modes and instead provides standard drive modes like Eco, Normal, Sport, and My Drive. Except for the last one, the Harrier EV has similar Drive modes on offer. 

Digital IRVM

While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM), the Harrier EV goes a step further and offers a digital IRVM that is seen in some higher-end cars. This feature displays the live rear camera feed from the sharkfin antenna on the IRVM, which gives you a better view. Not just this, the IRVM also has an inbuilt dashcam to monitor the surroundings of the EV.  

Electric Boss Mode

While both the Harrier EV and the Ioniq 5 offer a very comfortable rear-seat experience, the Tata Harrier EV takes it a step further with an electric boss mode for the front passenger seat. This allows the seat to slide forward electronically, freeing up significantly more legroom and kneeroom for rear passengers. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 does not offer this feature, but do note that rear seats in the Ioniq 5 goes a step ahead by offering powered functionality for the sliding and reclining rear seats.

Summon Mode

The Tata Harrier EV is the brand’s first model to offer remote parking through its Summon Mode. This feature allows you to move the EV forward or backward using just the key fob, making it easier to retrieve the car from tight spots or across a driveway without needing to be inside. It is especially useful in situations where space around the doors is limited.

Auto Park Assist

The flagship Tata EV also gets an advanced Auto Park Assist system that can automatically park itself in parallel, perpendicular, angular, or even irregularly shaped parking spaces. You can activate this feature from inside the car or while standing outside using the key fob or a smartphone. This feature simplifies parking in congested urban environments.

More Airbags

The Tata Harrier EV offers 7 airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver, in comparison to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which comes with 6 airbags (as standard). However, it is worth noting that the lower variants of the Harrier EV also come with 6 airbags.

10-speaker Sound System

The Tata Harrier EV features a premium 10-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos support, offering a more immersive audio experience compared to the 8-speaker Bose system in the Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, similar to the additional airbag, this feature is limited to the higher variants, while the lower trims of the Harrier EV come with a 6-speaker setup.

Bonus- Transparent Mode

Both the Harrier EV and The new Harrier EV not only offers a 360-degree camera setup but also goes a step further with a Transparent Mode feature, which uses the camera feed to display what lies beneath the SUV. This proves especially useful during tough off-road conditions, allowing the driver to manoeuvre the Harrier EV more precisely based on the terrain. In comparison, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a standard 360-degree camera setup.
