According to recent reports, YRA (codenamed) is expected to launch in couple of months while Grand Vitara replacement is likely to come by the end of this year or early 2016!
Suzuki has showcased India bound YRA’s concept version (iK-2) and Vitara at the on-going 2015 Auto Shanghai. Maruti will place the codenamed YRA hatchback above the Swift while Vitara will ditch the Grand moniker and indeed will replace the SUV in the country.
Talking about the YRA, the Japanese automaker stated at the unveiling of the iK.2 concept @ 2015 Geneva Motor Show, that it has a ‘Liquid Flow’ design theme, it is inspired by three keywords - “harmony,” “elegance,” and “energy wave”; featuring a low stance and wide silhouette. Speaking of the interiors, it will be a brand new one with similar Suzuki bits and pieces. Expect Suzuki’s SmartPlay 7-inch touchscreen infotainment just like the Ciaz, featuring sat-navigation in the upcoming model. Mechanically, it will be powered by the same set of engines, which powers the Ciaz - 1.4 K-Series and DDiS200.
About the Vitara, like in UK, the SUV in India will be pulled by both petrol and diesel motors. The petrol version will get ‘M16A’ 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine chucking out 120 PS @ 6000 rpm and 156 Nm of max torque @ 4400 rpm; mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The greener diesel version gets a ‘D16AA’ 1.6-litre DDiS turbocharged diesel engine mustering 120 PS @ 3750 rpm, similar to that of petrol, torque stands tall at 320 Nm @ 1750 rpm. And it gets, Suzuki new AllGrip 4WD technology.
