Next generations of India’s three main competitors in the premium SUV segment - Fortuner, Pajero Sport, and Endeavour were revealed last year. However, Ford India became the first manufacturer amongst the three to introduce new Endeavour within the country, while the rest two are currently donning a cloak of an older generation. It is also because the previous Endeavour was the first to enter this segment. Moreover, there’s this new Chevrolet Trailblazer is also present, but Chevy has only offered it with a 2WD setup, as of now.
What gets interesting and manages to catch your attention is the fact that the 2016 Endeavour’s prices undercuts that of a generation old Fortuner, i.e. the current Fortuner. Along with that, it comes with a lot of standard equipment as well as tonnes of opulent stuff! In this article, we are just figuring out whether Ford India has priced it right or not by comparing what all the new Endy is offering in various variants. In its launch month, Ford has retailed close to 480 units of the new Endeavour and that is a respectable number!
All the SUVs offer two-wheel drive (RWD, 4x2) versions along with an option of 4x4. However, presently, Chevrolet does not offer a 4x4 version of the Trailblazer in the country. The 4x4 version of the remaining vehicles also come with both manual and automatic options. The thing to note here is, Mitsubishi recent added an automatic option with 4x4 in the Pajero Sport.
In terms of features, none of the SUVs here can match the new Endeavour. It is literally miles ahead! It is more of a case of generations. Rest rest of the SUVs are a generation old than the new Endy. Things like 7-airbags including a knee airbag, panoramic sunroof, 8-inch SYNC 2 touchscreen system, standard active noise cancellation with 10-speaker system, standard terrain management system with 4WD variants, and park assist are part of a relatively endless list. In the 'extra add-ons' section, a few things might also be offered in others. As Pajero Sport offers all-4 Discs as standard. But, compared to its arch rival Fortuner, these are what Endeavour additionally offers.
So the new Endeavour appears to rule the segment until Mitsubishi and Toyota launch new generations of their offerings or Chevrolet localises the Trailblazer and adds more variants along with a 4WD option.
