Hyundai Elantra has been a great success for the South Korean automaker all over the world. It is about to unveil a new version of the car which was recently spied on, in India. The automobile was first revealed in its home market, South Korea. Now as per a finding of The Motor Report, a ‘SR’ variant of the four-wheeler will arrive in Australia. This is expected to take place in August 2016.
As per Mr. Jonathan Lam, Hyundai Australia’s assistant product manager, Elantra SR would “deliver a truly engaging driving experience.” He said that the new variant is directed to be more sporty and therefore, the suspension has been tuned accordingly. When asked about the details of the car, Mr. Lam said there will be some “significant cosmetic changes.” Some of them include upsized alloy wheels, an exterior bodykit, sports seats, coloured interior highlights and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Hyundai Elantra SR will run on 1.6-litre turbocharged mill producing 201 bhp of power with a peak torque of 265 Nm. This is in contrast to Elantra’s present 2.0 litre engine (in Australia) which produces 150 bhp of power. The 1.6-litre powerhouse mill is borrowed from Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo and Hyundai i30, where the later was shown at the Indian Auto Expo 2016. Transmission duties are either carried out by a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Hyundai Australia has been the first one across the globe to provide such detailed information about the to-be-launched car. It remains to be seen if Elantra SR is in the pipeline of Hyundai’s upcoming launches in India.
