For those who thought the Audi TT lacked the go-power to match the show — good news! The German luxury car maker has taken wraps off the TT RS in both Coupe and Roadster versions.
For the uninitiated, the RS philosophy is simple. It involves souping up a run of the mill Audi and watching the world go by in a blur. Under the aggressively styled nose, lies a 2.5-litre turbocharged motor that whips up 400 horses and 480Nm of torque. It gets Audi's proven Quattro technology as well. 0-100km/h is dealt with in just 3.7 seconds while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.
The TT RS gets plenty of trademark RS elements, such as large air inlets at the front, large 20-inch alloy wheels, a new rear wing, and brushed aluminium wing mirror caps. It is also the first product in the Audi line-up to feature OLED taillamps. The cabin too is littered with RS-specific touches. Updates include a new flat-bottom steering wheel inspired from the R8 supercar, and optional aluminum or carbon trim elements. It also gets a shift-light and an "RS Screen" that displays information such as tire pressure, torque, and g-forces.
The TT RS will lock horns with the recently launched Porsche 718 Cayman. Prices for the Coupe start at €66,400 (Rs. 50 lakh), and €69,200 (Rs. 52 lakh) for the Roadster. Expect prices to be much higher in India, thanks to the added import duties. We've driven the standard Audi TT, and came away impressed.
