The fifth-generation Honda CR-V is expected to hit Indian showrooms in the fiscal year 2018-19
Honda has revealed its fifth generation CR-V at the ongoing Delhi Auto Expo. The SUV gets a new 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine for the first time in the country. The other big additions to the CR-V are an extra pair of seats! Yes, it’s a seven-seat SUV now. Its price is likely to take a hike over its predecessor, which is priced between Rs 21.54 lakh and Rs 26.36 lakh (ex-showroom) and is expected to fall in the bracket of Rs 26-32 lakh.
The diesel-powered CR-V will be powered by the 1.6-litre Earth Dreams series engine of the Honda. The 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine puts out a max power of 160PS and 350Nm of peak torque. The 2.4-litre petrol motor, which pumps out 188PS of max power and 226Nm of peak torque, will be carried forward from its predecessor. All-wheel-drive (AWD) will be offered as optional. Transmission duties for both engines will be handled by a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The 2018 CR-V’s exteriors have been completely revamped. New features include LED headlights and fog lamps. The wheelbase is longer than the previous generation and it is wider as well. It is based on the same platform as the new Civic. Dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and thick C-pillars with chrome window line look neat from the sides. The split tail lamps with crystal LED lights are the highlight at the rear.

The new Honda CR-V’s increased wheelbase helps accommodate the third row. Even the width has improved over the current version, which should translate into a roomier cabin. The dip in height is expected to better its handling and stability on the road.
It gets a TFT LCD instrument cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display which supports navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice commands. Moreover, it comes with 4-way power adjustable front seats, one-touch power moonroof and dual-zone climate control.
When launched, the next-generation Honda CR-V will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and Isuzu MU-X.
