Maruti Suzuki has recently launched its much-awaited car, the Vitara Brezza. The sub-compact SUV has renewed the competition in its segment and has forced Ford to slash the price of the EcoSport considerably. Brezza is an important product for Maruti and its entry into the compact SUV segment takes the competition – currently boasting of Mahindra TUV300 and the EcoSport – to the next level (Have a look at the Brezza comparison). We checked out Maruti's latest offering and listed 5 aspects that made us feel that you should buy one.
1. Refreshed Design
It is fair to say that Maruti has been quite successful with its designs, and that sets the Brezza apart from the other cars in the segment. The Indo-Japanese automaker has provided the Brezza with a high stance, which bestows it with a conventional SUV look. Moreover, the roof is painted a different colour, giving the car a younger appeal. If one were to compare the car with its rivals, the TUV300 has a more muscular look while the EcoSport is more ‘European’ in design. Between the two, the EcoSport scores better, looks wise, than the TUV, but we would say that the EcoSport’s design is still a shade less appealing than that of the Brezza.
2. Kitna Deti Hai?!
The Vitara Brezza comes with the 1.3-litre DDiS200 diesel engine, which offers a mileage of 24.3 kmpl. Now, this figure is the best in its class and, considering the fact that the car is a sub-compact SUV, the number is even more impressive. Closest to this is the EcoSport diesel, which gives an average of 22.3 kmpl while the TUV300 with 18.49 kmpl of mileage sits at the bottom. The high fuel average becomes all the more important in the Indian context, where people love asking “Kitna deti hai?”
3. Competitive Price
Price is another area where the carmaker has been able to outshine others. The Vitara Brezza diesel has been launched at a price of Rs. 6.99 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is economical in every sense! The low price becomes more pronounced, when one realises that Ford has brought down the price of Brezza’s toughest rival, the EcoSport. Earlier, you had to pay a minimum of Rs. 8.41 lac for the EcoSport (diesel variant), but now, after the Brezza has taken to the roads, the price has been reduced to Rs. 7.28 lakh. The other competitor, the TUV300, can be bought at a starting price of Rs. 7.40 lakh. At a price of Rs. 6.99 lakh, the Brezza is perfect for someone looking for a car with good looks, ample of features and impressive mileage.
4. Safety Features
The company offers driver-side airbags as standard across variants, making it the only car to have one in its segment. While dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are available as options right from the base variant. Providing the Brezza good competition in terms of the safety features is the TUV300, which offers optional airbags and ABS. Lending better safety features is certainly an appreciative move by Maruti since, of late, it has been criticised for not providing enough safety features in its cars. Partial credit for the same goes to the government, which has been pressing for such features in cars for a while now.
5. Trusted Engine
Last but not the least, the Brezza has Maruti’s most reliable engine, the DDiS200. The engine powers a fleet of cars for Maruti, including the Ciaz, the Ertiga and the S Cross. In the latest offering, it produces 88bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The car is quick enough to complete a 0–100 kmph sprint in 13.3 seconds. However, the EcoSport has the more powerful 1.5-litre TDCi unit which generates 100PS of power, while the TUV300’s 1.5 litre belts out 85PS of max output.
