These tips should help you to keep your prized possession safe from all the dust and debris this festive season
Diwali celebrations include many joyous activities. While for most it may be about spending time with friends and family, for car lovers or enthusiasts, it could be about adding another set of wheels to their garage. These prized possessions that we hold so close to our hearts are in need of additional care when it comes to the festive times such as Diwali. Here are five simple ways to keep your car safe during the festival of lights.
Avoid Body Cover
Contrary to what many would think, it might actually be safer for you to not put a body cover on your car during the festival of Diwali. The main reason is because such covers are usually made of inflammable materials like cloth or plastic. So if a car cover were to come into contact with sparks from firecrackers or open flames (from a candle or diya), it could catch fire and potentially damage the car or pose a safety risk.
However, for most other days a body cover is probably one of the most important car accessories that you should buy (especially if you have an open car park).

Covered Car Park
It's best to park your car in a covered place during Diwali to keep it safe from sparks from stray firecrackers. This lessens the possibility of your car suffering fire-related damage or from inattentive groups celebrating the festival in open spaces. In case you don’t have covered parking available in your society, you can always ask a relative or friend for help or even consider parking it in paid-parking zones around your home.
Close Your Windows And Sunroof
The festive period of Diwali is usually accompanied by worsened air quality and excessive smoke. So, if you’re travelling around during this period, be sure to keep your windows and sunroof closed to keep the cabin air clean and protect yourself. Also make sure they are closed while parked, to avoid any unwanted elements like firecracker sparks from damaging the cabin.

Portable Fire Extinguisher
There’s a theme of Diwali-specific risks here - fire damage. Thus, it's crucial to have a portable fire extinguisher in your car during this period to be ready for any fire emergencies arising due to firecrackers by accidents. This will improve safety and enable you to put out small fires quickly.
Wash It Frequently
It is imperative that you wash your automobile on a frequent basis during Diwali to protect the paint and avoid corrosion from firework ash and dirt. It also keeps your car looking nice, and helps get rid of firework smoke smells, all of which improve your driving experience throughout the celebrations. You can also opt for some body protective coating to sustain the quality of your car’s paint for a longer time.
These are just a few of the steps you can take to keep your dear 4-wheeled possessions safe during one of India’s biggest festivals. Do let us know if you practise any other ways to take care of your car during such times in the comments.
